Two of our CMHA coaches Alex Halat and Chris Robertson, will be participating in the 2014 Hockey Marathon for the Kids! This is an Alberta Children’s Hospital Foundation initiative that is taking place this May.
The Hockey Marathon was first played in 2012 and raised $1.5M for The Children’s Hospital that went towards cancer research. This year the goal is to raise $2M which will be going to Brain Health research and facilities at The Alberta Children’s Hospital with a portion also going to Southern AB flood relief.
As a vehicle for raising their goal of $2M Alex and Chris will be one of forty players playing one continuous hockey game for 248 hours which will be vetted by Guiness as a world record. For 11 days, Alex and Chris will take part in a 4 hour rotating schedule of 4 hours on the ice and 4 hours off. Playing for 16 hours/day for 11 days and not being allowed to leave the arena the whole time will be grueling both mentally and physically but pales in comparison to what some children have to go through each and every day.
Alex and Chris have set an event goal goal of raising $2,000,000.00 Any donation large or small will go a long way into changing the lives of every child that has to walk through the doors of the Alberta Children’s Hospital. Any donation would be greatly appreciated. Please also let Alex and John know if you know of a corporate donation that can also be applied. A link to the fundraising page where donations can be made is below. They have also included a link to a 2 min video from the 2012 Marathon and an article from the Calgary Sun.
It would be great to have our CMHA family support Alex and Chris!!!
