HUMAN RESOURCES & GOVERNANCE DIRECTOR
POSITION OVERVIEW
Actively lead HR activities such as Diversity and Inclusion initiatives, policy and process revision, and communication.
Responsible for complaint resolution and investigations as required. Work collaboratively with the CMHA Hockey
Association (non-profit) including all diverse and dedicated leaders.
GENERAL DUTIES / KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
• Ensure Bylaws, Policies and processes are up-to-date and aligned with Hockey Canada, Hockey Alberta, CMHA
Bylaws, and other key regulatory bodies (such as Alberta Health, Provincial/Federal Legislation) where
applicable.
• Work with coaches, teams and parents to resolve conflicts and disagreements prior to escalation and to ensure
appropriate mediation and/or investigation as required.
• Actively deliver training initiatives, support HR strategies, and counsel managers/coaches/Board of Directors
through investigations and performance management.
• Targeted implementation of the Conduct Management Strategy including spearheading investigations and
forming an investigation committee as needed. Determine the severity of offence and discipline and enforce
consequences in alignment with Hockey Canada, Hockey Alberta, CMHA Bylaws and Policies and other key
regulatory bodies.
• Ensure appropriate authorities are notified of abuse and harassment as required.
• Spearhead Criminal Record Check compliance as per policy.
• Provide training & development as required.
• Inform all Trainers on the proper procedure for and importance of injury reporting and ensure Incident Report
Compliance. Notify all Trainers that it is their responsibility to properly and in a timely manner, file the injury reports
with Hockey Alberta.
• Advise and communicate applicable Health and Safety Regulations as required.
• Maintain a complaint form and submission process for complaints.
• Retain complaint and investigation files.
EQUIPMENT DIRECTOR
The Equipment Director reports to the Operations Director.
The Equipment Director is a voting member of the Board and is required to attend regularly scheduled meetings and support the decision making process.
RESPONSIBILITIES
The Equipment responsibilities include maintaining accurate records of all CMHA owned equipment and jerseys, supervising the storage area, arranging for the purchase of new equipment and the repair of existing equipment.

MERCHANDISE RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Merchandise responsibilities include the marketing, fitting, and distribution of merchandise and apparel sanctioned for sale by the Association.

TREASURERS ASSISTANT
GENERAL DESCRIPTIONThe Treasurers Assistant is accountable for coordinating CMHA team treasurers as well as all required communications and reconciliations with the Registrar, Treasurer and Fundraising Director.

WEBMASTER
GENERAL DESCRIPTIONThe Webmaster reports to the Social Media Coordinator. The Webmaster is a non-voting member of the Board and are encouraged to attend regularly scheduled meetings.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Maintain the CMHA website at all times
- Update all information on the website as it becomes available
- Track hits and provide regular reports to the Board regarding usage.
VOLUNTEER BOND COORDINATOR
GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
The Tournament Coordinator reports to the Social Media Coordinator. The Tournament Director is a non-voting member of the Board and but are encouraged to attend regularly scheduled meetings.
RESPONSIBILITIES
The Social Media Coordinator ensures all members of CMHA are informed of any activities, events, or significant policy changes throughout the season. The Social Media Coordinator is also responsible for ensuring any stories or advertisements in local newspapers are placed in a timely manner. The Social Media Coordinator is responsible for the Tournament Coordinator and the Webmaster.
The Social Media Coordinator reports to the Vice President and is a non-voting member of the Board.
RESPONSIBILITIES
The Rockies Hockey League (RHL) Director oversees the house league teams in the RHL.
The Rockies Hockey League Director is a voting member of the Board and is required to attend regularly scheduled CMHA meetings and support the decision making process.
This is a 2 year term starting May 2018.
RESPONSIBILITIES
The Past-President is responsible for attending regularly scheduled meetings of the Board of Directors and providing leadership for the decision making process. The position of Past-President is only recognized in years when there is a new President elected. The Past-President does not vote at any Board Meeting.
RESPONSIBILITIES
The Operations Director is responsible for the Evaluations process, Equipment coordinator and the Division coordinators. The Operations Director is responsible to collect the reports from the Equipment coordinator and the Division coordinators, to be forwarded to the President and Secretary. The Operations director is a voting member of the Board and is required to attend regularly scheduled meetings and support the decision making process.
RESPONSIBILITIES
The League Director’s position is a requirement of CAHL. The League Director is the Association’s membership prime representative on CAHL’s Board of Directors. The League Director is a voting member of the Board and is required to attend regularly scheduled meetings and support the decision making process.
The League Director is responsible for collecting any reports from the League Governors.
RESPONSIBILITIES
The Ice Director is responsible for ensuring adequate ice allotments are provided to each team and that secured ice times are fully utilized. The Ice Director shall dispose of any surplus ice only through the CRCA. The Ice Director is a voting member of the Board and is required to attend regularly scheduled meetings.
RESPONSIBILITES
The Hockey Development Director is responsible for Coaching, Player, and Goaltending development of our players and coaches in our association. The Director may form a committee of members to help with this position

RESPONSIBILITES
The Fundraising Director reports to the Treasurer.
The Fundraising Director is a voting member of the Board and is required to attend regularly scheduled meetings and support the decision making process.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Schedule annual fundraising activities and ensure the following:
Contact all team Managers and tournament Coordinators: ensure they understand their roles and responsibilities relative to fundraising, including:
Responsible for the Team and Tournament Raffle License and 50/50 License draws for all Teams:
Responsible for ensuring that Alberta Gaming has the most recent list of Directors at the beginning of each season.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Chestermere Referees Association nominates their Referee in Charge for the position of Chestermere/Indus Referee Association (CIRA) Liaison. The CIRA Liaison is responsible for providing qualified referees for league and exhibition games played on CMHA’s “home ice”.
The CIRA Liaison is a non-voting member of the Board.
RESPONSIBILITES
- Report to registrar
- Ensure all the volunteer bond paperwork is supplied to each team manager
- Ensure that each team reports monthly on the volunteer bond hours
- Ensure volunteer bond cheques are returned once hours are completed
- Work with teams to have all hours completed before the end of the season
TOURNAMENT COORDINATOR
GENERAL DESCRIPTIONThe Tournament Coordinator reports to the Social Media Coordinator. The Tournament Director is a non-voting member of the Board and but are encouraged to attend regularly scheduled meetings.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Establish Tournament dates for the season
- Book blocks of ice for each tournament
- To secure tournament chairpersons for each tournament sanctioned or hosted by CMHA
- To assist with the finalization schedules for each tournament
- Coordinate and assist Tournament Committee with duties
- Report back to the board on finished tournaments
SOCIAL MEDIA COORDINATOR
GENERAL DESCRIPTIONThe Social Media Coordinator ensures all members of CMHA are informed of any activities, events, or significant policy changes throughout the season. RESPONSIBILITIES
- Attend all Chestermere Minor Hockey Association Board of Director’s meetings and ensure any significant information arising at these meetings is noted for distribution to the members through the monthly newsletter.
- Attend all Chestermere Recreational and Community Association meetings, noting any issues that may involve or affect CMHA
- Ensures all CMHA teams have individual Instagram and Twitter pages
- Ensures CMHA Facebook page is updated with CMHA events
- Ensures all team managers have the proper social media guidelines as per CMHA guidelines
- Monthly newsletters
- Reports in community newspaper
- Verbal report at the Annual General Meeting
ROCKIES HOCKEY LEAGUE DIRECTOR

- Act as the go between for the League Executive and individual team staff.
- Distribute all League information to teams at the beginning of and throughout the season. This includes schedules and suspensions.
- Maintain a copy of all official player rosters submitted for registration.
PAST-PRESIDENT
GENERAL DESCRIPTIONThe Past-President is responsible for attending regularly scheduled meetings of the Board of Directors and providing leadership for the decision making process. RESPONSIBILITIES
- Facilitate the transition of all outstanding issues/activities from the previous year(s).
- Ensure all issues are identified and recorded in minutes.
- Ensure a complete set of records is available and up to date
- Provide assistance and guidance to the new Board if necessary
OPERATIONS DIRECTOR
GENERAL DESCRIPTIONThe Operations Director is responsible for the Evaluations process, Equipment coordinator and the Division coordinators. RESPONSIBILITIES
- Establish the Evaluations Committee
- Set up the conditioning and evaluation groups in each division
- Recruit and organize the evaluators and on-ice coaches for each division
- Assign each player to a team and oversee the assessment of interface players and/or over/under age player placements.
- Coordinate the re-assessment of any players if required.
- Complete the rosters for each team and submit to the Registrar and appropriate level coordinators.
LEAGUE DIRECTOR
GENERAL DESCRIPTIONThe League Director’s position is a requirement of CAHL. The League Director is the Association’s membership prime representative on CAHL’s Board of Directors. The League Director is a voting member of the Board and is required to attend regularly scheduled meetings and support the decision making process.
The League Director is responsible for collecting any reports from the League Governors.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Attend all meetings of CAHL (fines levied for non-attendance)
- Raise any concerns/issues on behalf of CMHA at the CAHL meetings
- Ensure CMHA is apprised of any issues/concerns/changes identified by CAHL
- Perform the responsibilities as outlined in the Bylaws of CAHL
ICE DIRECTOR
GENERAL DESCRIPTIONThe Ice Director is responsible for ensuring adequate ice allotments are provided to each team and that secured ice times are fully utilized. The Ice Director shall dispose of any surplus ice only through the CRCA. The Ice Director is a voting member of the Board and is required to attend regularly scheduled meetings.
RESPONSIBILITES
- Participate in the budget discussions to determine the amount of ice required to support each team.
- Develop an ice requirement proposal for submission to the C.R.C.A
- Schedule conditioning and evaluation ice times in conjunction with the Evaluations Director
- Schedule practice and game times for each team
- Games include exhibition, league, playoffs and provincials in accordance with CAHL requirements
- Assist with ice slot trades between teams when required
- Return unusable ice slots to the CRCA with reasonable notice
- Secure from the CRCA ice times for sanctioned tournaments
- Maintain accurate records of ice distribution and utilization
- Provide CMHA Board of Directors with monthly ice usage statements
HOCKEY DEVELOPMENT DIRECTOR
GENERAL DESCRIPTIONThe Hockey Development Director is responsible for Coaching, Player, and Goaltending development of our players and coaches in our association. The Director may form a committee of members to help with this position
Hockey Development Director is a voting member of the Board and is required to attend regularly scheduled meetings and support the decision-making process.
RESPONSIBILITES
- To create a unified training template for coaches in the CMHA
- Responsible for booking and organizing yearly clinics for the coaches, players and goaltenders currently playing in the CMHA
- Solicit and evaluate applications for Head Coach Positions for the Association
- Appoint a Head Coach for every team in accordance with the policy
- Book facilities for Head Coach meetings as required
- Provide direction and support for Coaches
- Hold clinics/meetings as required with coaches to disseminate information from CMHA and ensure issues and concerns are addressed
- Ensure coaches are directing their teams in accordance with HA, CAHL and CMHA policies and regulations
- Attend practices periodically to ensure that the players in the CMHA are developing in accordance with unified training template
- To keep updated on any development methods that may enhance the playing experience of all players currently in the CMHA
- To provide feedback and information to all goalies within the CMHA regarding training and development
- To facilitate a meeting with all goalies (individually) during the season to track development
- Assist level coordinators when needed
FUNDRAISING DIRECTOR
GENERAL DESCRIPTION:The Fundraising Director reports to the Treasurer.
The Fundraising Director is a voting member of the Board and is required to attend regularly scheduled meetings and support the decision making process.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Schedule annual fundraising activities and ensure the following:
- Planning and implementing at least one major fundraising event (dance, comedy night, silent auction) planning to commence at start of season, to include volunteers from the membership. This will be in addition to a casino fundraiser.
- Facilities are booked
- Assemble organizing committee for each event
- Hold organized meetings to plan activities
- Supervise the activities and monies collected
- Provide Alberta Gaming with all required paperwork at the end of the event
- Prepare a summary of income/expenses for each event for presentation to the Board
Contact all team Managers and tournament Coordinators: ensure they understand their roles and responsibilities relative to fundraising, including:
- That alcohol cannot be used as prizing for any Team’s fundraising nor purchased with team funds.
- Raffle licenses must be obtained for all Team Raffle’s (license number must be printed on the tickets)
Responsible for the Team and Tournament Raffle License and 50/50 License draws for all Teams:
- Obtain all team and tournament raffle licenses though Alberta Gaming Commission or Alberta Registries for all teams
- Provide Alberta Gaming with all required paperwork at the end of the season
- Purchase and distribute the 50/50 tickets and raffle permit to each Team and Tournament Coordinator as required.
Responsible for ensuring that Alberta Gaming has the most recent list of Directors at the beginning of each season.
EVENTS COORDINATOR
GENERAL DESCRIPTION:- NA
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Report to Vice President
- Ensure 2 social events are scheduled, one for the first half of the season and another in the second half of the season.
- Ensure that a CMHA representative is at all CRCA and City required events.
- Work with VP to set up parade float.
- Work with VP on Awards night.
CIRA LIAISON
